Convict graphic designers

While I do not think that what Neil did was right, I do think that this opens peoples' eyes to how powerful design can be. We may not realize it when buying things or picking things off the shelf, but design controls our decision making process. I know for me personally, I will spend a couple extra dollars on something if I think the packaging looks nicer. Neil was wrong for what he did but was right in all ways when it came to his packaging.

Hillary's logo

I think that no matter what Hillary's logo was, there was going to be negative remarks. That goes for everything in life, there is always going to be someone who disagrees with what you think is good. I personally think that Hillary's logo is awesome. When we design things we want the viewer to get a quick message but also have it unique and pleasing to the eye. Her logo does all of these things. It's simple, but to the point. Some of the other logo's, they said in the article, they weren't even sure what they were. If viewers are confused by exactly what your logo is then you didn't do a good job. Yes, there are multiple opinions are Hillary's logo but I think people are reading to much into it. I simply think it is an H for her name and an arrow to say that we are moving forward and she is going to turn things around for America. I love the simplicity of the logo but the thought that was also put into making it.

Favorite logo

One of my favorite logos is the adobe logo. It's so unique in the way that it uses white space to create an A. Also, it doesn't look like the normal A we see everyday, they designed it in a cooler more eye catching way.

Dustin Stanton Interview

I really enjoyed reading this interview and getting an inside look as to how movie posters are made. It's incredible how Dustin really uses every element of the film to make his final product. The teaser for "The Master" was really a cool design and getting to read how he came up with that idea is awesome. I really like how he said the title being cut off by the water represents sinking or swimming because it's really symbolic and has a meaning that most people wouldn't catch on to at first. You can really tell he has a passion for making movie posters and that it really comes naturally to him.

Interview with Dave Perillo

I really like Dave's pop-cultured-themed style of design. I feel like it's a prime example of how sometimes simple is better. Like he said knowing the basic shapes you can make anything. You can definitely tell he admires Walt Disney just for the fact that I could see a lot of his designs associated with Disney. I just really like the fact that his art is so different and stands out from the modern design that we see today. You can tell that he is very vintage inspired. I love his advice of developing your own style or "thing". That's what design and art are all about, a form of expression, most importantly a form of your expression. If everyone took the safe route or copied off of every other designer the world be such a boring place where everything looks the same.

Rethinking the way we sit down

Niel was always meant to be a designer, he just didn't know it at first I think. His "romance" started with airplanes but was later on convinced to get into art and design. Once he got into designing he came up with a new way to design computer chairs. You can really tell how intelligent and passionate he is about his work when listening to him talk. The fact that it took him nine years to design one product is incredible to me. I really like the fact that when he took on this project of designing a chair he also took into consideration how a person's body works. He didn't just start designing the chair so that it would look good to the costumer's eye. He did his research about how your body should be positioned when sitting and what is good and bad for it. It really shows how important design is and how much thought should be put into it. I also like that he observed people in every day settings to see their habits and what they do when sitting in the office in a chair. He realized that most people did not bother adjusting the chair how it should be or did not know how to. All of these things played such a big role in his design and I think it is brilliant.

How to Ruin a Great Design

This article addresses bad design and the many forms it can come in. Some examples talked about were things that are unsafe and are unnecessarily complicated. It also discusses how some designs should not be changed. The "Diverted Cyclists" sign is a great example of all these things. The design of it is technically unsafe and complicated. The enlarged "D" distracts drivers and takes their focus off the actual message. The sign also steers away from the original and simple signs made by Kinneir and Calvert. Instead of trying to redesign road signs they should of kept it simple and more effective.
